Hotel complex "Manastira" is situated 2 km. south-east of the town of Svishtov, on the road for Veliko Tarnovo near the monastery "Uspenie Bogorodichno". "Manastira" is 80km away from the towns of Veliko Tarnovo, Rousse and Pleven and about 220km (a two-hour drive) from Sofia and Varna. It is at about 150km distance from the capital of Romania – Bukureshti and the international airport Otopeni.
."Manastira" is situated in a picturesque area near the monastery "Uspenie Bogorodichno" restored in the 16th century. The area is famous for its unique climate, the Monastery and the mineral water spring opposite the Monastery gates.
The complex is just 2 km. away from the busy university town of Svishtov which offers various kinds of entertainment: disco clubs, restaurants, cultural and historical sights.
It is worth changing your route to visit the complex. Water temperature in the outdoor spa jacuzzi is 37-38º C throughout the year and drinks are served round the clock. The hotel tavern offers an excellent variety of local dishes and a proper wine selection.

In Svishtov you can visit Eastern Orthodox churches, famous for their frescos – "St.St.Petar and Pavel" Monastery, "Sveto Preobrajenie" Church, "Sveta Troitza" Church,ect. Evidence of the cultural and historical past of the region can be seen on the excavations of the Roman and early Byzantine camp "Novae" and the sight of "Kaleto"dated back to 13 th – 14 th.
Aleko Konstantinov’s house-museum keeps the rich and beautiful atmosphere in which the family of the famous Bulgarian writer lived.
In the historical park "The monuments" there is an exposition of the preparation and the force crossing over the river Danube from the Russian Army during the Russo-Turkish Liberation War from 1877.
It is opposite the Hotel Complex in a picturesque landscape. An old legend says that a prominent Greek who settled in Svishtov liked the woodland and decided to build a church there. It was restored in the end of the 16 th century. The present-day domed church has a tower and was built in 1904.
The Roman town "Novae"
It is situated 4km east of Svishtov. In the year 45 AC a camp was built there for the 8 th August legion. In 69 AC came another Roman legion and stayed there till the end of antiquity.
The fortification is 485m long and 365m wide and is built on the verge of the high bank of the river Danube. To the west and south-west of it there is a settlement in which lived veterans from the legion, craftsmen, tradesmen and their families. At a two kilometer distance from Novae there is still another settlement. In the beginning of the 4 th AC the camp turned into a fortified town centre.
"St.Trinity" Church
In the centre of Svishtov you can visit the impressive "St.Trinity" Church which has a three-naved , four-coupon building and a bell tower. It was erected by the eminent Bulgarian master Kolio Ficheto and was sanctified with a liturgy on 19 September, 1867. The iconostasis was made by master Anton Peshev – Debraliata between 1870 – 1872. Most of the icons are painted by the renowned Bulgarian artist and icon-painter Nikolai Pavlovich.
The Church and the iconostasis are included in the list of the Bulgarian National Monuments.
Historical Park "The Monuments"
This area is also known as "Tekirdere" and is 5km to the east of Svishtov. On 26th and 27th June 1877 the key forces of the Russian Army disembarked on the bank of the Danube River in the locality of Tekirdere and the Russian-Turkish War of Liberation began. This place is turned into a park in honour of the liberators of the town.
Ecotourims/Routes
In the immediate vicinity of Svishtov isthe beautiful Nature park "Persina". It is the only nature park along the Danube coast in Bulgaria. The reserve is an earthly paradise for the numerous colonies of marsh birds – kingfishers, gulls, cormorants, herons,ect. You can also see rare plants.
